Hot Tub Maintenance Tips – Keep Your Spa Clean and Safe
Maintaining your hot tub properly is essential for long-lasting performance and clean, safe water. Here are my expert recommendations for effective hot tub care:
I do not recommend bromine tablets. They are highly corrosive to spa components if not used correctly and are challenging to regulate.
Use 1/4 cup of sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione dehydrate (commonly referred to as Shock or Chlorine Granules) once a week.
If you use your hot tub daily, increase this treatment to twice a week. After a hot tub party with lots of guests, add 1/2 cup of chlorine granules to the water to ensure cleanliness.
Add 1/2 cup of pH Increaser (pH UP) once a month to maintain optimal pH levels.
If your hot tub water becomes cloudy or smells unpleasant (like old mop water):
Rinse your hot tub filters thoroughly with a water hose once a month to remove debris and ensure proper water circulation.
For additional freshness, fragrance, and water quality:
Pick up test strips for free chlorine if you want to closely monitor your water's chemical balance.
Pro Tip: Regular maintenance not only keeps your hot tub water crystal clear but also prolongs the life of your spa components. Following these simple steps will help you enjoy a clean, safe, and relaxing spa experience year-round!
